I finally finished The Yiddish Policeman's Union. Finally! I'm still using the CalTrain ticket from December 30, 2008 as a bookmark. I think I'll leave it in there. The book was quite good, once I got into it. But this isn't a book report. I'm just here to say how aggravating it is to turn the page anticipating a final chapter, or at least a comforting epilogue, and instead finding the Author's Note, with a few more blank pages for filler. It's always such a shock.
It definitely feels good to finish it. I was reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay (another Michael Chabon novel) at the beginning of 2008 at a time where I needed the escapism. G picked this one up in September 2008 when we went down for S's wedding, and burned through it. When he passed it on, I just couldn't get into it, even though I took it with me on at least two trips down to California. But now it's done, and I can move on.
